Raytheon Completes $100 Million Military Sensor Facility Expansion in McKinney, Texas

Raytheon Intelligence & Space opened a 178,000-square-foot Advanced Integration and Manufacturing Center at its McKinney, Texas location in September 2021, according to company announcements. The facility represented a $100 million investment in collaboration with the McKinney Economic Development Corporation and created 500 skilled jobs.

The company simultaneously announced plans to build a second, larger facility on the McKinney campus—a 400,000-square-foot factory, lab and office space scheduled to open by 2025. The expansion was projected to generate an additional 700 jobs, according to SpaceNews.

Manufacturing Modernization

“Our new Advanced Integration and Manufacturing Center and plans for greater expansion reflect a deliberate strategy to transform ourselves by investing in new digital capabilities,” said Roy Azevedo, president of Raytheon Intelligence & Space, in the September 2021 announcement.

The second phase, comprising a 188,000-square-foot office tower and a 270,000-square-foot manufacturing space, was completed in December 2024, according to developer KDC. The office tower exterior features ribbon glass and ACM panels with brick accents, while the manufacturing building includes tiltwall panels with skylight ribbon windows.

Electro-Optical Systems Production

The McKinney campus specializes in electro-optical sensors and advanced targeting systems for military applications. The facility produces intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance technology for U.S. and allied forces.

In July 2025, Raytheon launched its newest Multispectral Targeting System variant from the facility—the MTS-A HD—designed for U.S. Navy helicopter operations. The system delivers improved targeting precision, imaging clarity, and expanded operational flexibility for naval helicopter platforms, according to company statements.

“Navy helicopter pilots need the clearest possible view when flying in hostile areas,” said Bryan Rosselli, president of advanced products and solutions at Raytheon, in July 2025. “Our new high-definition sensor system provides aircrews with superior visual capability, allowing them to make faster and more informed decisions when it matters most.”

Regional Economic Impact

The McKinney expansion represents part of Raytheon’s broader real estate modernization and consolidation strategy. The larger, consolidated manufacturing operation enables the company to develop, build, test and deliver advanced technology while generating significant employment in the North Texas region.

“Raytheon Technologies is a truly respected and valued corporate partner, and we are proud to have their long-standing presence in our community,” said McKinney Mayor George Fuller in September 2021. “McKinney is known for fostering strong business relationships and creating an environment that not only allows these businesses to grow but provides their employees with a great place to call home.”

The McKinney site first expanded in 2019 when Raytheon announced plans to build a 200,000-square-foot facility at its Space and Airborne Systems headquarters, according to Aviation Week. Construction of that facility was completed in 2021, with the latest Phase II expansion completed in late 2024.
